Importer Exporter Code (IEC)
Application, Modification & Annual Updation
The Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is a 10-digit unique identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It is mandatory for any individual or business entity engaged in import or export activities in India. The IEC is a one-time registration, valid for a lifetime, and is essential for availing benefits under various export promotion schemes.
Mandatory Annual Updation of IEC
As per DGFT Notification No. 58/2015-2020 dated February 12, 2021, all IEC holders must update their IEC details annually between April and June, even if there are no changes. Failure to do so will result in deactivation of the IEC, rendering the entity ineligible for import/export activities until reactivation.
