The Status Holder Certification Scheme is a prestigious recognition by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It acknowledges exporters who have consistently demonstrated excellence in international trade, contributing significantly to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
📈 Eligibility Criteria
Exporters of goods, services, or technology with a valid Importer Exporter Code (IEC) are eligible for status recognition based on their export performance. The criteria are as follows:
Export Performance: Achieve the prescribed export performance (in FOB/FOR value) during the current and previous three financial years. For the Gems & Jewellery sector, performance during the current and previous two financial years is considered.

An MSME as defined in the MSMED Act 2006.
A manufacturing unit with ISO/BIS certification.
Located in North Eastern States, Sikkim, or Jammu & Kashmir.
Situated in Agri Export Zones.
🏆 Privileges of Status Holders
Recognized Status Holders enjoy a range of benefits aimed at facilitating and promoting exports:
Self-Declaration: Authorization and customs clearances for imports and exports may be granted on self-declaration basis.
Priority Norms Fixation: Input-Output norms may be fixed on priority within 60 days by the Norms Committee.
Bank Guarantee Exemption: Exemption from furnishing of Bank Guarantee for schemes under FTP, unless specified otherwise.
Simplified Documentation: Exemption from compulsory negotiation of documents through banks. However, remittances/receipts must be received through banking channels.
Export Warehousing: Two Star and above Export Houses are permitted to establish Export Warehouses as per Department of Revenue guidelines.
Preferential Treatment: Status Holders are entitled to preferential treatment and priority in handling of their consignments by the concerned agencies.
Self-Certification: Three Star and above Status Holders (manufacturer exporters) are enabled to self-certify their manufactured goods as originating from India to qualify for preferential treatment under various trade agreements.
📅 Validity
The Status Holder Certificate is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of issuance or until the validity of the Foreign Trade Policy, whichever is earlier.
